Magpie offers the highest quality chromes, dusts and flakes. These products can be used in multiple ways, allowing for full creativity in the salon!
Please note: Chromes are available in a dust and compact variety, but both will create a stunning chrome effect.
Products that will make your application of chromes, dusts and flakes easier:
Chrome Applicator Brush
Chromes can be used as either a dust or a chrome. Compact Chromes will follow the same instructions for application as loose chrome powders.
To use as a dust:
- After applying your base coat and color layers, simply dab the chrome powder onto the tacky layer of the gel using your Magpie Applicator brush.
- Gently brush away all excess.
- Cover the dust with a layer of Magpie Give Me Strength, being sure to cap the free edge. Cure for 60 seconds in the Magpie LED lamp.
- Finish the manicure with your favorite Magpie top coat and cure for 60 seconds.
- Chrome powders can also be mixed with acrylic powder to create unique acrylic designs.
To use as a chrome:
- After applying your base coat and color layers, apply a thin layer of Magpie Top It Off, then cure for 60 seconds in the Magpie LED lamp.
- Immediately after curing, gently rub the chrome powder onto the top coat, being sure to get the edges. (You can use a finger, a gloved finger or the Magpie Chrome Applicator when rubbing in the chrome)
- After the chrome is fully rubbed it, gently file the free edge with a nail file. Brush away all dust using the Magpie Soft Duster Brush (grey).
- Apply a layer of Magpie Give Me Strength, being sure to cap the free edge and cure for 60 seconds in a LED lamp.
- Finish off the manicure with a thin layer of Magpie Top It Off, curing for 60 seconds in a LED lamp.
PRO TIP: The chrome powder can also be used to create a nail art paint by simply adding a small amount of powder to a Magpie clear gel on a palette. Using your Magpie nail art brushes, create a masterpiece and cure for 60 seconds in the Magpie LED lamp.
PRO TIP: Apply holographic chromes with the Magpie Chrome Tool or with a fingertip. DO NOT rub holographic chromes with the silicone tool as it will scratch the chrome.
To apply Cat Eye Chrome Dusts:
- We recommend mixing the dust with Magpie GIVE ME STRENGTH. Mix approximately 5% dust to 95% gel. You can add more or less dust for your desired look. Less for a subtle translucent effect which will look great over any gel color base. Alternatively add more dust for a full coverage effect. Paint onto the nail using a gel brush, place a magnet over the uncured mix to move the particles and create a stunning cat eye effect. Cure and top coat to finish.
- To create colored cat eye try mixing with Magpie Jellies or add a touch of color by adding a smaller amount of Magpie Jellie to your GIVE ME STRENGTH mix. Have a play and add other dusts and glitters to your custom mix. The possibilities really are endless.
Dusts add the perfect shimmer to a manicure. Please note: dusts cannot be chromed.
- After applying a base and color layer, pat the dust onto the tacky layer of gel using your Magpie Teal Detailer brush.
- Gently brush off the excess.
- Apply a layer of Magpie Give Me Strength, being sure to cap the free edge and cure for 60 seconds.
- Finish off the manicure with a thin layer of Magpie Top It Off, curing for 60 seconds in a LED lamp.
- Dusts can also be mixed with acrylic powder for a shimmery effect in the acrylic design.
Flakes are fun to encapsulate in gel or acrylic, to add that perfect iridescent effect.
- After applying a base and color layer, pat the flakes onto the tacky layer of gel using your Magpie Teal Detailer brush.
- Take care to apply them strategically or you can cover the entire nail. If covering the full nail, gently brush away any excess flakes.
- Apply a layer of Magpie Give Me Strength, being sure to cap the free edge and cure for 60 seconds.
- Finish off the manicure with a thin layer of Magpie Top It Off, curing for 60 seconds in a LED lamp.
PRO TIP: Some flakes (like Lexi and Venus) make a cool chrome effect! Simply follow the chrome application technique with the flakes.
